Karen's G8 fashion date
A Local fashion designer beat strong competition from across Scotland to exhibit her clothing at the G8 summit held in Gleneagles last week.

Karen Godsmark's label - "Clothing by Design" exhibited her Harris Tweed Products range for women and children before the world's most powerful leaders.

And she found admirers in Cherie Blair and Laura Bush who expressed their gratitude that Karen could travel to Gleneagles to exhibit her work.

Karen, who studied at Heriot-Watt University in Galashiels, said:   "it was fantastic to go to the G8 summit but you don't really take it all in until you are there and see all the high profile people. Mrs Blair and Mrs Bush were really nice and admired the clothes before thanking me for attending. It was an opportunity of a lifetime".

Karen, who only started the label four years ago, had her clothing reviewed by the Foreign Office before officials at Downing street allocated her a place at the G8 along side another 13 Scottish companies.

She said: "It was a great opportunity for us, considering that we have only been in business for four years . But the summit has ended and I've come back down to earth now. As for the future the label will just keep going. Its back to business as usual," she added.

Many thanks to The first Minister of Scotland The Rt. Hon. Jack McConnell MSP for taking the time to say hello to us and other exhibitors and words of encouragement.
